Meeting Gyun Hur…
Later that day, We made a quick stop to Lenox Square Mall to run a few more errands. We were stopped in our tracks when we came across the art instillation in progress. The mall typically has such a noisy atmosphere and around this particular section it was very quiet. In the photo below you can see why…they are doing very meticulous and beautiful work.

Look! It’s so perfect.

From afar it looks like colorful powder they were spreading across, but upon reading the info given to us we realized they were was silk flowers.

The artist name is Gyun Hur and she ,”explores elements of the ephemeral nature of beauty and life through installations of reappropriated silk flowers carefully arranged into immaculate, streamlined patterns.”

We saw an older woman overseeing in the back and we thought maybe she was Gyun. We asked her about the art and she quickly called her daughter (who was working on the instillation at the time) over and we met this lovely young lady…
She was so sweet and she was also a SCAD student. Woo Hoo! She spoke to us very quickly about the work and the silk flowers she is working with. I loved that her work is being done with the city of Atlanta to show her Korean heritage. To learn more about Gyun Hur’s work with silk flowers watch this very quick video below:
