Hey everyone! Today is the offical first day of fall…too bad it’s still 90 degrees in Palm Springs. I will start implementing more content to the blog (and the brand). Beauty being one of them! woo hoo.
today’s post will a little out of my norm, but this is an important issue i’d love to speak on.
It’s summer time, which means my braids are back! It’s too hot to manage my hair and braids make my mornings much easier. Lol. With braids come lots of questions, especially by people of other races. I know typically it’s from true curiosity about my hair, but sometimes it can be borderline offensive.
I know it’s not the norm to be able to change the style of your hair very often, but as a black woman that is something that I can do and love about my hair. Asking to touch my hair is a major NO NO! I am not an exhibition or a pet so touching my hair is a true insult. It may not seem wrong to want to touch hair, but think about someone came up to you and asked you that.
With that, asking if my hair is…. my hair is probably the most hurtful question. Like… why just why? Lots of women wear extensions and I wouldn’t dare other woman if her hair was hers or an extension, because it really isn’t business.
As women, I think we pride in our looks and I know I can be sensitive to unwanted criticism and questions. I think as women when we meet other of various cultures, we should look at them with an open mind and think fully before asking questions on their looks.
Thank you all for listening to my rant!
Anywho, My look was on the run for errands and lunch of my girls. I recently bought this top from Nordstrom Rack and I am madly in love the pattern. It has a great ethic look to it and the colors pop very well on my skin. I paired my blouse with my favorite Jimmy Jimmy boyfriend jeans from Paige Denim. To dress my look up from my normal casual style, I “borrowed” my moms classic open toe Lanvin pumps.
This was the last look Nicole collaborated on at The Saguaro. This time we utilized the color walls for great color blocked shots. When we were brainstorming this look, we both found shots against the colorful walls and just knew that had to be a backdrop.
I styled my color block look with a turquoise and white hounds tooth jumpsuit by Michael Kors. The print of the jumpsuit played well in contrast to the wall and helped me still pop against it. I kept my look retro with my oversized pearl necklace and Louis Vuitton wedges.
Nicole styled herself with this boho chic look. She wore a printed tribal maxi from Forever21 with a Michael Koru belt. Then coordinated her accessories with a brown clutch and wedges. I loved how our looks differed, but it showed our personal style.
We had lots of fun shooting on various hotel balconies… hopefully no one were in the rooms while we were shooting. If they were, I’m sure they had fun watching us.
Nicole had a gorgeous boho chic look with her maxi dress and wedges.
i have recently started the steps to expand my “trapped” brand and next it’s beauty! please subscribe to my new youtube channel: trappednbeauty! i will be covering everything beauty and hair related… i’m very excited for this new avenue and hope that all of you will follow me there.
I spotted Tatiana in Forever21 when we were school shopping and I was so mesmerized by her hair. It was a nice purple to an ombre mix of many colors.
Tatiana dyed her hair herself, but didn’t really like the effect it had. I told her I Ioved the accidental ombre of her hair.
What do you think of Tatiana’s hair?
It was announced today that Janelle Monae is been added to become the face of Covergirl. Being that she has PERFECT skin & projects wonderful confidence, I think she is perfect for the job. She is following in the footsteps of Queen Latifah, Ellen Degeners, Brandy, Faith Hill, and many others. She is “easy, breezy, beautiful…she is a cover girl!”
There is always that point in your life when you have to say, “enough is enough!” I am certainly at that point in my life…..with my body. I want to get my body in the healthiest state & want to feel confident about my body.
I’ve decided to go on a juicing diet with my mom. Juicing is the best way to detox your body and cleanse it for life. Juicing diet involves only consuming fresh squeezed juices for a period of time. So everything I consume, I am juicing myself with fresh fruits and veggies. Since it is a “detox”, I have to handle my body with care while juicing because i’m taking it from a normal eating pattern to almost no food. I am not doing a full juicing diet, I am eating one healthy & light meal each day. I’m not much for the full juicing. Through the exeprience, I hope to become more in tune with my body and start living a healthier lifestyle.
I will be giving a day-by-day or week-by-week updates on my juicing experience….. WISH ME LUCK!
